Venus Cazimi and Innana's Journey to the Underworld

As a prelude to a magnificent  Taurus Full Moon on  October 25, 2026 at 9:12 PM PDT/October 26, 2026 at 12:12 AM EDT we are  preparing for a profound spiritual alignment  as Venus ruler of this Full Moon transitions from an evening star into a brilliant morning star, marking a sacred moment of emotional and relational rebirth. 

This celestial shift begins  on October 23, 2026, at 2:38 AM PDT, when the Sun enters the deep, intense, transformative waters of Scorpio. Just hours later, at 8:44 PM PDT, the retrograde Venus forms a powerful interior conjunction with the Sun. In spiritual astrology, this exact alignment is known as the Venus Cazimi—the moment the Goddess of Love enters the heart of the Sun to be purified, burned clean of past baggage, and initiated into a brand-new eight-year evolutionary cycle.

The Energetic Birth (October 23, 2026): At the exact moment of the interior conjunction (Cazimi) at 8:44 PM PDT, Venus crosses the solar threshold. She officially leaves her role as the Evening Star behind and crosses into the morning sky domain. 

The Heliacal Rising (October 29–30, 2026): For about a week after the conjunction, Venus remains hidden from our physical sight by the intense glare of the Sun. She makes her first actual physical appearance—known as her heliacal rising—low in the eastern predawn sky just before sunrise on October 29 to 30, 2026. By early November, she will be brightly visible to the naked eye as the glorious "Morning Star" As a morning star she is called Phosphorus or Lucifer. Venus as an evening star is called Hesperus or Vesper.

Using  our psychic senses we consult the  Sabian Symbols  for 0 Scorpio 45 the degree  of  both the Sun and Venus at the Cazimi.

What might appear as an incongruous symbol we see this description: A Sight-Seeing Bus Filled with  Tourists.  When traveling there can be a feeling of knowing one’s destination, having a map or guide, but not always knowing what we will experience.  On the bus we  feel guided and sheltered, but there can be feelings of being an observer and, sometimes, of being observed. You could feel like you’re separate from what’s going on. The trick with this degree is to throw your self into life, reach out for all sorts of adventures and, most of all, enjoy the ride! Some keywords come to mind: Observing life. Foreign territories. Seeing how other people live. Timing, being on time. Watching from afar. The untried and untrodden or the same old road. UFOS and aliens.

The evolutionary intensity of our journey deepens almost immediately as Mercury stations retrograde the very next day, October 24, 2026, at 12:13 AM PDT, at 20 degrees 58 minutes Scorpio. This back-to-back  pairing creates a profound inward pull, forcing us to look beneath the surface of our relationships, desires, and psychological shadows.

This intense period of internal excavation reaches a beautiful, synchronized climax a few weeks later. On November 13, 2026, the  tide completely turns in a rare double-direct alignment. First, at 7:54 AM PDT, Mercury ends its retrograde journey and moves direct, helping  to  clear the fog from our minds and releasing pent-up insights. Then, at 4:27 PM PDT on that exact same day, Venus also stations direct. This simultaneous awakening allows the insights we gathered in the shadows of Scorpio to finally integrate, propelling us forward with profound clarity, renewed self-worth, and a revitalized capacity for deep intimacy.

What makes this particular Venus rebirth so monumental is its place within the larger Venusian geometry. Venus operates on a beautiful eight-year cycle, tracing a perfect five-pointed star or rose pattern across the zodiac every eight years as it returns to the same. 

The Descent of Innana  and the Seven Gates 

This period of total disappearance was linked by ancient Sumerians to the Descent of Inanna because the astronomical cycle perfectly mirrors her mythic journey into the underworld:

• The Evening Star Phase (The Descent): As Venus sinks lower in the evening sky each night, Inanna journeys toward the underworld, stripped of one of her royal garments or symbols of power at each of the seven gates.
• Superior Conjunction (Death and Rebirth): When Venus disappears completely behind the glare of the Sun, Inanna enters the underworld kingdom of her sister, Ereshkigal, where she is killed and hangs as a corpse for three days and three nights.
• The Morning Star Phase (The Resurrection): Just as Inanna is revived by the water and food of life and emerges victorious from the underworld, Venus rises again, reborn on the other side of the Sun as a brilliant, triumphant morning star.

The Synodic Cycle and the Seven Gates of Inanna

While the mythic descent is often told as a downward journey, it mathematically tracks the final two months of Venus as an evening star leading up to her retrograde inferior conjunction.

Every 19.5 days during this phase, the Moon forms a visible conjunction with the fading Evening Star Venus. In ancient Sumeria, these monthly lunar alignments tracked Inanna’s approach to the underworld. Each conjunction represented a gate where she was forced to strip away an aspect of her ego and worldly identity:

4th Gate	The Double Breastplate	Vulnerability; removing the armor protecting the heart chakra.
5th Gate	The Gold Ring of Power	Relinquishing personal willpower, manipulation, and ego-driven desires.
6th Gate	The Palace Robes	Shedding the social personas and labels we hide behind.
7th Gate	The Royal Breeches (Pala)	Total nakedness; facing raw, unadorned vulnerability and mortality.

When Venus completely disappears into the Sun's glare (the retrograde inferior conjunction), Inanna is killed by her sister Ereshkigal (the shadow self) and hangs as a corpse. When Venus emerges days later as a Morning Star, Inanna is resurrected, reclaiming her adornments at the gates—but this time with true spiritual sovereignty instead of superficial ego

We also undergo this mythic journey since psychologically, a Venus retrograde is a mandatory underworld journey of the heart. Because Venus rules what we value, beauty, how we relate and our sense of self-worth, her retrograde turns these energies sharply inward.

• Confronting the Shadow Self (Ereshkigal): In the myth, Ereshkigal represents the repressed, ugly, jealous, and wounded parts of our psyche. Venus retrograde forces you to sit with the parts of your relationships or self-worth that you normally avoid—such as deep-seated fears of abandonment, toxic patterns, or buried resentments.
• The Death of the Ego-Persona: Just as Inanna had to strip bare, you are forced to look at where you are staying in relationships out of habit, financial security, or social status. The retrograde strips away "false love" and surface-level harmony to reveal what is genuinely authentic.
• Re-evaluation and Reclaiming Value: This is not a time for outward manifestation, marriage proposals, or major aesthetic changes. It is a psychological excavation. You are meant to retrieve the "lost gold" of your own self-worth, realizing that your value comes from within, not from external validation.

When Venus stations direct (as she will on November 13, 2026), the psychological underworld journey ends. You emerge from the cave of the self with a re-aligned heart, ready to relate to others from a place of wholeness rather than codependency.
